 - a dime put into the press minting pennies. Reeded edge of dime showing. Cent overstrike on dime -- hence missing dime date. Quite a find! Sorry I don't know value - check ebay for similar sold coins.

Revisiting it, I would send that baby in for grading/authentication. ANACS would be the easiest If you don't have any other coins to submit. Here's an ebay listing for one that sold for $560 (slabbed): 252913155799I don't know the value for a raw version but, there's no reason to not submit it to a TPG. Good luck!

The coin was pulled out of circulation, in pocket change. I just wish I could say it was my pocket, not. but I am the coin guy, so that person came to me for some info.

2.4 gms appears to be overweight for a clad dime planchet. Based only on that I say bogus.

Should be 2.27g. How good is your scale? John1

kanga, thank you for saying something. so I went and re-weighed the coin. 2.3 grams , I hope that falls within the limits of a clad dime

That is 100% within the limits. I think you have a winner. Submit it to PCGS/NGC/ANACS?

Looks genuine, I would have no problems with it. If the scale it was weighed on only went to one decimal point it could very easily show 2.4 grams. Spec weight is 2.27 which would show as 2.3 grams. Tolerance is .091 grams which could take it to 2.36 grams which would read as 2.4 grams. So weight is OK. Quote: #1 it is made up. Think abboouddit! A cent is larger in diameter than a dime...it would NEVER fit inside the dime collar. The dime was struck first and then the struck dime got into the cent press. The cent dies would never have to fit into the dime collar. Never mind, I see you figured that out. You will also note that the final coin is slightly larger than a regular dime. That is because the striking in the cent press with the larger collar allowed the coin to spread out a little more.

Are you in the Denver area? At the ANA World's Fair of Money - Denver CO 1-5 Aug 2017, there would be several representatives who would (a) authenticate the coin, (b) offer to buy the coin and (c) would love to see it! I would fall into the B and C. Cool piece!

The coin is genuine and exhibits all the characteristics of a struck dime that was later struck by Lincoln Cent dies. A dime can easily fit in the collar machined for a cent.
