It would surprise me to see this in a NGC holder as AU. PCGS has been harder on BHD the last year or so as they were getting flak for consistent 5-10 point higher grades than their own photo grades. I'm not really sure how PCGS is grading now.

I have a question. Under what conditions would a 212 year old silver coin tone bright chalky white the way we see on the reverse of this coin?

VF-35. The old cleaning, which does not amount to much, comes with the territory on these coins.

XF40 to me. Market acceptable, I would agree, although it's not to my particular tastes. I see she's got a bit of clash under the chin and some die cracks on the reverse that might allow you to make an attribution.
