It looks like he got "tenderized".

I was recommending the same answer. But he beat me to it. I feel that is what was used and not as a joke.

While trying to tenderize a coin is the joke, I did think it looked like someone smacked it with a meat tenderizer.

I'm pretty sure that that's where all the PMD came from. Or it was in a visegrip.

@Newbie

While doing research for Crazyb0's contest, I came across this on Error-Ref and your coin immediately popped into my head. I don't know if it's just coincidence or you might actually have something there (in that case, I hope you kept it).

Also a 1964:

Just-Sharing,-Weird-1964-Nickel!

Here's the link explaining it:

Spruett; I do appreciate the link. That coin shows some similarities. I know what I'm doing today! Looking for that coin.

What's the possibility of this coin being sent back to the mint to be destroyed,but surviving somehow? I did find it in a bank roll!

I do not think so. It looks too random. I think any sort of cancellation method would have a more exact pattern.

I do not think so, but it is just my opinion and do look forward to others. I could change my mind.

It is similar for sure but, there are differences as well such as the spacing of the "diamonds" and the lack of any remaining detail of a cancelled coin. Also, some of the impressions seem to have shifted the design elements of the nickel suggesting post-strike damage, especially on the reverse. The pattern looks regular to me but has also been affected by circulation.

I really don't know. Maybe you could contact Mike Diamond for a final opinion.
