Unless you've owned it for the last 158 years, you can't say that for sure. Just because you didn't clean it doesn't mean somebody else didn't.  All the same, there is enough doubt in the images so I will not say for sure that it's been cleaned. It has the technical merit of a decent XF example, and would sell for something over US$75 if in a straight-graded TPG slab. It is, of course, not certain that it would receive such a slab.

The first thing that came to my mind was '' Cleaned '' . Look at the black color between feather tips , right under bust and in and around the E & T in the word one cent on reverse . Sorry but this is not an original coin .

First year of issue for U.S. Indian Head cent. I agree that it looks like a Cu/Ni cent that has been harshly cleaned at some time in the past. But, nice detail remains on the devices.

Sorry but this is not an original coin . That's exactly what came to my mind as well, it has definitely been cleaned at some point before your possession. It is still a nice coin and I am also leaning towards XF grade and agree it may not receive a straight-graded TPG slab, it may be considered damaged.

Corroded (environmental damaged) 1859 Indian cent graded EF. Nice coin though...how did you get it?

Your last set of pictures clearly indicates this coin had been cleaned at some point, black/dark dirty areas in between feathers and devices indicates that. But as mentioned already it is a nice coin. I don't believe it is worth the TPG slab since the premium on your coin it will not be $200 or more! but it is your coin your decision and your money and you need to decide on what pleases you. Here is a pic from an original one in similar grade.

Your latest pictures make it look like two totally different coins when comparing to the first pics. Assuming we're talking about the middle coin in the second set of pics then that looks like a perfectly normal 1859 Indian cent in EF condition.

I'm in XF details crowd. the coin was cleaned at some point. there is something happening under the 1 in the date. any experts out there?
