How did this happen? Has it been stuck under some kind of plate with lettering in relief for 35 years or what?

It was exposed in an album, facing and in contact with a printed page on one or the other cover. Others of this type are known, although this one is among the clearest you'll see.  |

Y'know, this is one of those coins that makes me take a step back and think, "Look at the weird stuff we think is cool on coins." But that only lasts a moment, and I go back to just thinking the coin is cool.  |
