Ok after a little more research I think it's Overton 117a
I'm not too sure what the significance of the "a" is however all I know is that this coin looks exactly like the one listed in this auction
unfortunately there's only one other coin to compare it to.
Yes I'm happy with it, I do not have one of these and on ebay they wanted $100+ for coins that are a lot worse than this one. It will hold me over until I can afford a nicer one.

If it is an O-117 then that is a scarce coin especially for that price. Here is the site I go to to attribute Half dollars. Hopefully it helps!

I already selected that variety but you can go back and double check all of them. According to this reference there are only 64-80 known and likely less than that which is probably why you could only find one to compare it to. Not a bad price at all to take a flyer on it...congrats!!

Yeah thanks Chesterb that website was really helpful!! Thank you eveyone for your comments! I do like this coin and I choose to look past the scratch and focus on the reverse because I find that side more appealing. I should have the coin in hand on Thursday and I'll be sure to post new pics

I just wanted to let you guys know the coin came today! I'm very satisfied, save for the scratch on the obverse.
For a 200+ year old coin with only 64-80 known I'm very happy with the price. I'll post more pictures of it tomorrow, thanks for looking!
