The cut in the rim supports this idea.

Mike, then what you're saying is some form of corrosion has taken place under the cladding to raise this?

Back to corrosion ridge...

@crazyb0, no I'm not sure that he is saying that at all. No corrosion--just PMD from a sharp object.

Corrosion is neither evident nor required in this case. Cutmarks with this appearance are quite common. And corrosion ridges are unknown among clad coins. They're primarily a phenomenon of alumuinum coins and some plated steel coins.

I agree, not because he's Mike Diamond, but because of the explanation.

It looks to me like it's been scored. The pics are tough, but it looks pretty dark along the bottom side. It's not hard to score a straight line when done quickly. I think PSD without seeing a clear close-up.

You guys are all great educators. I know most of what I know about coins from this site and didn't mean to take anything away from Mike Diamond with my previous comment.

I been following all the comments on the quarter I submitted for your thoughts. Just a couple more things about this quarter, the area is raised, also I can feel it and see it. Should I send it off and see what they say?

you might try to take it to a dealer ('s) or a show first have someone look at it in hand ,or just pay the money and hope ,but if it is PMD that's money out the window .good luck and happy hunting

it's money out the window, even if it is a Die Crack. A Die Crack is at the lower end of the spectrum of errors. If they said it was one (which I seriously doubt), it would be a very nice one and you'd be lucky to break even. I would recommend improving your photography skills and showing us a nice clear close-up. Whatever it is, you already have it. Why pay for it? Show us, we'll tell you what it is. You may want to check out the photography forum for this one and future coins. It's really not that difficult, it's not the equipment, it's the intensity and direction of the lighting.

Could of been done with a box cutter also-when sharp cuts are made into a coin the edge medal gets raised to mimick a crack-im definitely with the PMD camp on this one(I've been almost fooled by a couple these myself in hand with loupe)
