I never tell wood workers what to do , just suggestions\, but to make that a 3 piece? Bottom piece a flat wood, second piece used to cut out the circles using your spur bits so you don't have the points of the bits showing into the ring base, glue them together. Then cap them off with the top piece.

I Thank you all for your help and advice, these are still sort of works in progress! I'll hopefully have time to bang out a few prototypes this weekend and keep you posted!

I like that. Is it yours or just an example?

God no, I do not have skills like this. I saw someone do this as the floor on a rec room. He used only red copper so they'd all match. I wonder what it would look like in ten years.

At first I couldn't stop chuckling because I had just looked at one of the sale listings on the side of the forum about 18 silver 2 mark coins from Germany, then realized that you probably don't want that design on your boxes.

On a serious note, I was thinking those 2 dollar coins from Canada that glow in the dark would be interesting.

For something to display that would not cost a lot and not damage valuable coins, and Silver in color, think about the 1943 Lincoln Cent. Not expensive to buy and they do not look like other Cents of ours. You could put them on a piece of wood or something. Cover them with that stuff like liquid plastic. That is obtainable at places like Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Comes in two cans you mix together like an epoxy and pour over what ever you are making. Sets to make a really great conversation piece. I once covered a Chess Set with that stuff and it has been a great conversation piece for a long time.

^^^ What he said, except since you want it to be about half dollar to dollar size, do 3 of them, one of each mint.

Coins-To-Use-As-Decoration

I just used some clear epoxy adhesive that I had laying around and a gaming token I found in my cash register. Next time I may borrow my wife's clear jewelry resin.

AH...I couldn't quite picture what you were going to do with the coin. I -- for some reason -- was imagining it sticking up. Whatever.

It's interesting and I think the resin will give it a sharper look.

It does make a nice little gift box.
When you finish the next one, let us know.

back in college, I made a keg table with the top covered with cents and coated with polyurethane. I don't have any pictures, and I have no idea whatever became of the table.

Normally when I work with epoxy I clean the excess bits off the set item with a kitchen paper towel and finish it off by soaking the paper in alcohol and wiping it down. You may think that the item won't hold, but believe me, all that is needed is for the epoxy to have some texture to grab onto. The edge of the coin and even just the other side will keep the coin in place.

@Libertad so you mean you glue it where you want it, clean off any wet glue, rub with alcohol, let it dry and then apply epoxy? Do you use a separate adhesive to set it in place or the same epoxy?
