Crazy, I buy the coin not the slab. I bought it because I liked how it looked online. Also came from someone I have bought beauties from.

I think it's a wonderful looking coin. I don't think $400 is out of line for this one. I'd keep it if you are after one of these. If it was a one-off purchase I would consider flipping for something you like better. Me, I would have to keep it!

Price aside, I think it's a super example!

bid for a 65RB is $435. $400 for a 65BN CAC is not out of line and certainly not by 2x.

To answer the questions, I was looking for a nice looking regular example to go on display next to my proof coin. It's not a series I have studied though so I am not super familiar with them. I trust my eye for the most part and know what I was looking for. I like the look of this one alot but it's not super lustrous. I think what you see in the photos is a good representation if you picture what you see cartwheeling. It's just not bright. I bought this coin with out having a specific date in mind. Just one that I like to look at. $2.5 Indians are my specialty and I am much more confident in that department. It's also the only series I laid out a huge amount of money for a key date coin.

Quote: I have a pr64 1866 which is nice but different looking. Do you just need one for your type set? If so, we might need to see this 1866 to say which we would keep.

It's a beautiful coin. Five years from now, you're not going to remember what you paid for it. All you'll know is that you have a beautiful coin.

Quote: jbuck, not really a type set. Just random coins I find attractive. I don't need specific dates to fill holes. Just pretty old coins to enjoy. Fair enough. That 1866 is beautiful, but so is the 1865. If you can afford keep them both then do so.

Nice looking Two Cent. As far as value, I think you bought at a fair price for a well graded coin. I can see why it got a green bean. I have sets of both business and proof strikes and have studied this series for 20 years. It's possible to maybe pay less for a nice looking Two Cent Piece, but your selection as a 65 grade with a CAC sticker seems like a good value. Superior coins are worth more money IMHO.

What you have in your '65 is a nice, honestly aged business strike coin that (in my opinion) contrasts very nicely with your proof. If you were to stumble across a super lustrous MS example, it might not compare as nicely. Just food for thought. And it certainly is your set and your eye. Enjoyed seeing them - one of my favorite types.
