I ordered one of the new half-ounce silver Maple Leaf $10 coins. One of my few indulgences outside of the RCM's SDs. The series began back in 2011 and, so far, has been limited to one issue per year - eight coins so far. They're an inexpensive numismatic coin and I've always liked the specimen finish used for them. They make for an attractive annual series that I'll continue to collect as long as it remains just one coin per year and they are kept as simple unadorned silver coins. I recognize that the coins are not a good deal from a bullion perspective, but paying a numismatic premium for one $35 coin per year doesn't create an overspend worth worrying about!

@commems, when you receive your coin can you let us know whether the capsule can be easily removed from the packaging? I know some people will want to move the capsule to a coin tray.
Thanks!

@Alex A: I asked the RCM this very question and was told that the capsule, in its entirety, can be easily removed from the folder without causing damage to the folder (or coin). I'll confirm this once I receive my order.

My $10 ML coin has arrived and it would appear that that the RCM rep I spoke with wasn't really familiar with the folder in which the coin is housed. I have been unable to remove the entire capsule from the the folder; its top piece comes off easily to get access to the coin, but the bottom piece appears to be tightly secured. I have used a fair bit of pressure while trying to remove it, but to no avail - maybe there's a trick that I'm missing. I'm just going to leave it be - I don't want to damage the folder.

@commems
Just took a look at my $10 ML and I have determined that the bottom part of the coin capsule is the whole square part of the right flap. Meaning you can't take the capsule apart without destroying the holder. You need another capsule to house the coin if you want to put it in a coin case.

@commems, thank you for the update. The RCM website states the coin can be removed for easy viewing, but says nothing about the capsule. Not so good for people using coin trays. I hope RCM issues this one in a clam shell (just like 2012 which had two packages: cardboard sleeve and also clam shell). Thanks again,

Thank you guys, for update. Correct me, if I wrong, or missing details: on the RCM website, the coin appears as inside of the separate capsule. I am going to rip apart this package, it is cheap looking, not informative and contains blah blah only. Other question - where from will get the capsule quickly? Looks like going to call RCM.

Paid attention - the NCLT part of the forum was silent for 4+ days. Definitively reduced interest.... But here, some interesting news. Just received ad mail from RCM, and there discovered truth about real date, when the Penny was withdrawn from the circulation. Here the screenshot: Yes, already for 15 years we miss 1-cent coin.

but wasn't the last pennies minted in 2012? from Wikipedia: The last penny was minted in Winnipeg on May 4, 2012.

Hard to believe the RCM can't get simple facts right, finally most on this forum has finally gotten the message, buy latter and save at least 30% or more, still be interesting to see the RCM yearly report.

@Silveroid That has to be a typo... With final mintage in 2012 Quote: The last penny was minted in Winnipeg on May 4, 2012. removal from circulation could have been 2013 not 2003. Quote:

I also watched to see if there was interest. RCM NCLT is not very inspiring these days... Forget about the whole pricing discussion, it has been said too many times, but I haven't found myself compelled to buy in to something new. I have been maintaining my annual subscriptions (Silver dollar, Unc set, $100 gold etc.) but only for completion purposes. I haven't seen anything from the RCM that has turned my head since... Maybe that is a new topic... Too many maple leaves, wolves, geese, loons, and a selection of trinkets (gates, clocks, figurines, glass)

removal from circulation could have been 2013 not 2003. yes, this is clear to me as well. I even still have some 2012 Penny coins, and the set. Wasn't clear for me, how possible to miss this while rechecking mail targeted to be sent to people? Or, the 2012 - this is what we've been told. And author tries to tell truth.

I think most collectors are sitting on the sidelines-watching waiting for something to jump on - but nothing too thrilling for first three releases for 2018. This will be a tough year to compel most collectors, as many were very keen on 2017 150th offerings but with that now in the past...most RCM NCLT collector will opt to just stand on the sidelines and merely window shop for now.

Quote:If I remember correctly, the first one, 2011 also was Specimen finish. In anyway, I wait for the moment, when this simple coin will go to our 12-slot RCM case (if you still filling it up with 1/2oz'ers) I finally saw one of the 2018 $10 silver maple leaves in the red and white folder. Looks good. Just curious, has anyone tried removing the capsule from the packaging? If yes how did it go?

It can't be done w/o damaging the folder. The top of the capsule comes off easily, however, so getting the coin out is easy. I bought a 34mm Lighthouse capsule, popped the coin out of the folder, dropped it into the LH capsule and then placed the coin/capsule in the storage tray I use for the 1/2 ounce MLs. Quick, easy and total cost was less than $1.00.
