In response to customer questions, there are two replies from Royal Canadian Mint on the RCM Facebook page that RCM will not be issuing 2018 Olympic collector coins or 2018 lucky loonie:

Look under the January 31 2018 comments for the full thread.

Thoughts?

I have all of the Silver Lucky Loonies, wondering about this series.
An opportunity missed in my opinion. SMH.

Probably has something to do with the time difference and the pros are not attending the hockey, one of the key events. Would have been easy design to continue the circulating lucky loonie

Alex A- The facebook link you posted says it all. It was a cost cut. Shame on the mint, they should have cut something else.

Cut something else? You mean like one of the hundreds of NCLT?

Bingo. Plenty of cutting room there.

I was at the RCM mint boutique in Ottawa in early March and the sales rep there said there would be a coin exchange in May. When I returned a few weeks later she mentioned it was canceled after the Government apparently declined the request to produce 2018 commemorative coins and there would be no commemorative circulation coins this year.

Someone at our local coin club said that the new mintmaster is not very interested in commemorative circulating coins.

That's just sad. and
There should be at least one cc to commemorate the end of WWI.

Wow. So, apparently making coins is costly, but they have the nerve to make new Bills(no offense to Viola Desmond). I wonder if the mintage will be lower this year, with the demand higher.

The Royal Canadian Mint creates and processes coins.
The Bank of Canada issues and prints bills.

I know that. It just the government that has the nerve to turn down CCLTs (commemoratives) but allow NCLTs.
