This is clearly a Die Break V. Also note the RP "N" as stated. Worth significantly more that $70-$180 posted above.

Quote: What did you pay... I paid $32 USD for the coin. Below is a side by side of my coin and a known graded example of an 1872-H Canada 25¢ - Inverted A/V - Die 2 The effigies just look slightly different to me..... Oh well, I'm beating a dead horse until I get the coin in hand and can post better pics.

Bump...
Can anyone tell me the correct attribution for this variety as well as its approximate value?

Using the directly above photo, it is an OQ2. The doubling I don't know about, as I don't collect quarters.

The market is very fickle on these...
Many of us got our examples like you, $20, $30, $50...if you're patient

JDRMCB - what is the source of that image? You say you found a good reference, and then copy material that isn't yours... the least you can do is cite your source or give credit to where the image came from...

Well, all in all not a bad cherrypick! Bought coin for - $32 Sold coin for - $200 Net profit - $168 I never expected to get the outrageous money others on the Bay are asking, I just wanted to make a nice profit. Mission accomplished! Back to cherrypicking....

That's a good buy for someone. It's a good clean not overly filled example of die break and the doubling. Very few collect these so the prices vary greatly depending on timing.

Quote: Net profit - $168 That is your sales profit... your net profit is after you remove the ebay listing fee, the ebay final sales fee and the PayPal fee...

@SPP-Ottawa......
If you want to split hairs.....my actual GROSS profit was $167.99.
You forgot to take time out of your life to address my obviously inferior mathematical skills, being that there is a whole penny missing from the equation simply because I thought it would be acceptable to round up to whole numbers without appearing overtly deceptive. Again, my bad.
I can understand the previous jab you took at me for posting a reference without a source link. However, I feel as if this jab is nothing more than you attempting to project your perceived intelligence onto your own assumption of my ignorance.
I've worked in the medical profession for 20+ years now, so trust me when I say that I know what it feels like to be jaded, I just never thought I would ever come to feel that way in a coin forum.
I say this not to offend you, merely to show you where the line in the sand has been drawn.
Without a doubt, you are obviously a very knowledgeable numismatist and a great resource to the community. We all know that, all I ask is that you not go out of your way in some vain attempt to prove it.
Regards,
JDRMCB

It was not a jab, and I did not go out of my way to single you out... it was merely tongue-in-cheek... because ebay and PayPal always line their pockets in these situations... Quote: I can understand the previous jab you took at me for posting a reference without a source link. That was not a jab - that was completely justified. Myself, and several other numismatic authors, are tired of seeing our work blatantly copied without credit given to the original authors. We have been burned a number of times, including seeing our photographs in books (i.e., for profit publications) without permission or acknowledgement. I'll go after anyone here, if I see someone posting copied material here without giving credit to the source. Quote: all I ask is that you not go out of your way in some vain attempt to prove it. Next time, if you feel jaded, use the "Report this Post to the Staff" link or send any moderator a message, to perhaps clarify the intent of the message first, rather than get up on a soapbox with your underwear in a knot and write wrong assumptions on someone's "vanity"...
