Yeh, been hunting halves since fall 2014. Had plenty of dry streaks, and some impressive silver windfalls as well. Ending up with the average Ive reported :D

And yes, standing orders for years now. Only way to roll.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are these "boxes" you're referring to? How many halves in a box? I always assume when you come across a valuable coin in change or roll searches it means some kid just stole some coins from his dad's coin collection.

How many boxes are your standing order?
Do you use just one bank?

Right now I have a standing order for 2 boxes a week at a bank I have a great relationship with. I'd like to increase it to 4 boxes a week, but I dump at this bank also....

I got a walker and a barber during 186 boxes of searching. I thought I got a Franklin also, but its not in my spreadsheet, so I guess not.

I've done about 90 boxes total the past couple of years. I've found Franklins or Walkers in three of them. So that's about 1 per 30 boxes. It seems to vary a lot with geography and vendor. LOOMIS boxes seem to produce the most, BRINKS the fewest.

Well I guess God gave me a gift. Just a couple days after creating this poll! My son and I went to get our weekly 2 boxes and found 2 Franklins :) He was so happy!

We've done somewhere around 30 boxes, so our average is around 1 per 15 boxes now

I'm glad you did this poll. It has answered my question about whether to start searching half dollar boxes. I have decided not to. The find rate is too low to keep me interested. Sounds about like searching quarter boxes for silver.

My fake vote was for 60.

Also We have been doing about 9 boxes per month since December 17. My son and I have now found 4 Bennies and 1 Walker. We did not find any for the first 2 or 3 months, then they started to show up. So I'd say my vote would now be every 10 or 20 boxes.

Remember the poll was only about Bennies and Walking Liberty's.

I'd say I am averaging about 1.5 silvers per box. My best box for silver has been 15 40%ers and 1 90%. Ironically it was my first ever box in December. But halves are the best for silver IMHO. Not only is the find rate the highest, but the finds are worth more then the smaller coins.

One other nice thing I like about halves is how large they are and easy to handle, wrap, see, ect.

The one bad things is that they are harder to dump consistently in large amounts.

I see your name means you must do nickels. Nickels are my sons and I's 2nd favorite to hunt. We have found 5 V nickels, about 10 buffalo's, and maybe 15-20 silvers. Nickels are fun. I don't like that you can't edge search. I have stopped looking for 2009's, so now we don't have to even look at the dates on the newer style nickels. That makes searching them easier. How do you do your nickels searching if you do in fact do it?

Common misconception. Actually the amount of valuable coins, especially silver, still in circulation is mind blowing. I've roll hunted since about 1977, and the bulk of my finds were made between 2008-2012. I found more silver in boxes/rolls during that period than I ever did back in the 70s. Half dollars never really caught on with the public in more modern times, so they sat in bank bags and boxes for a long time, including Barbers, Walkers and Franklins.
