Very interesting find! I was wondering if you can post full and cropped pictures of the obverse, reverse, and the edge of the coin. Also, a normal weight 1983 D Lincoln Memorial cent for comparison in pictures would be great also.
Errers and Varietys.

Put a BU pre 1981 on your scale to see what weight it shows.

with the suggestions of a comparison. It has the look of a zinc cent, but better pictures are needed.

I have a small scale for this purpose. I have to reset it sometimes because it gets .2G to .3G off. Your scale might be more stable but it might be something to consider.

First off, isn't the coin supposed to be weighed in the middle? And do you press tare before you place the coin in the middle of the weighing platform? Then grab a 70's coin and see how that weighs. I would weigh that coin multiplie times if I were you just to make sure you getting correct readings.

I've weighed it on 3 scales and they all say 3.0g. I put the penny on the edge of the scale so both date and weight were in the pic. I'm still skeptical about it also.

If it's not that then it could be a rolled thick planchet.. idk if my eyes are playing tricks on me but the rim looks to be a little weak starting from liberty going to bust. Better picture of obverse and reverse would definitely make it interesting

Copper gold. That rim does look odd like it could be a thicker than normal coin.

Like stated above, get pictures of a post 83 cent, a pre 82 cent, and your 83 cent on all three scales you have mentioned, and include pictures. Try weighing it in the middle and on the edge to see if it makes a difference. Hopefully you beat the odds. Wouldn't that be sweet!

We're pulling for you, but want to make sure you won't be wasting money by getting it authenticated! I believe better pics will help, because it could be a thick zinc planchet. It seems to have that copper-plated "look" to it. As far as weighing near the edge, I have not noticed a difference with the cheap digital scale I have as to where the coin is placed. If nothing can be decided here, it may be worth a shot to send to ANACS to see what they say.
