Agree it's market acceptable and that you see this sort of thing commonly, but it's not a coin I'd want to own.

I do not care for the high point wear color of the coin. I believe that the coin had a nice overall patina but then was reintroduced into commerce for a brief time and the high points tone wore off. There are quite a few silver coins with this type of tone removal through circulation or other handling.

I'm not a fan of this coin either. I've been looking to fill last two 7070 holes for the last 9 months, both of which are Seated dollars. Two trips to Long Beach coin shows were fruitless, over priced and few selections. I did meet a gentleman who had albums of Seated dollars and was overwhelmed with the number of Seated dollars. But he came from Seated dollar club and coins were not for sale. Looked at thousands of ebay coins, but did not find one that I liked without paying high retail dollars. Couple of HA did not pan out either. Didn't realize Seated dollars are this difficult.

It's definitely not a series where you're going to find bargains on the premium or nicer examples. Buyers will have to pay up for those or make some quality concessions.

I just got a sweet Seated dollar today with super surfaces and original toning. Wasn't cheap but worth it for a nice coin. I'd rather pay up for quality myself.

Quote: Market acceptable But only because it is a Seated dollar, a Morgan or Peace that looked like this would get "Details" or in the old days body bagged right off. Quote:Didn't realize Seated dollars are this difficult. Low mintage. There are 46 dates and mints in the series spread over a 33 year period with a TOTAL mintage for the entire series of only around 6 million coins. And a third of that mintage comes from just two issues 1871 and 1872 Philadelphia. Another third over five more issues 1859, 59 O, 60 O, 69, & 70. Those seven coins account for 2/3 of the entire mintage. If you assume a 10% survival rate, which is probably generous, that leaves 200,000 coins, in all grades, for the other 39 issues. Most of those survivors have been messed with. If you want better grade coins there just aren't enough unmessed with pieces to go around so as demand rises coins that would normally not be acceptable "become" acceptable and get straight graded.

Not a very nice looking coin in my opinion.

I think the TPG graders should be subject to regular eye exams.

My thoughts are this coin did not look like this when it was first submitted to PCGS, I think it had been dipped and the toning is now coming back and not in an attractive way. It may have looked better when graded.
