A little washed out from too many Jewel Lustre dips over the years....especially the obverse. The splotchy brown/purple toning (in the lettering and devices on the reverse) is a sign of a poor rinse.

I thinking the coin grades somewhere between 62/63. Any higher than that and NGC was very generous.

Bottom line is it is still a very nice coin!

Some diversity of opinion here!

C'mon Steelers, I think it's been long enough.

I like a MS62 grade here. It doesn't look overgraded at that point and doesn't look undergraded either.

I hate gradeflation!

For some strange reason some collectors (and dealers) could not leave these coins alone and dipped the heck out of them back in the 70's (and later). Not only did they dip them, they failed to rinse them properly and the residue just started a toning process all over again.

Dip, rinse and repeat the process again every few years. It eventually kills the luster.

This coin is a perfect example of what can happen with multiple dips.

The brown/purple uneven toning on any silver coin is a sure sign that something may not be right.

Looks like it has been dipped ... that hazy look...

Though, I recall some people on this forum commenting that TPG will let these older coins slide if they have been dipped. I suppose that means they have been "properly cleaned" ...
