Slanted 5's? What the heck is that?

I never paid much attention to large cents. I just learned something. !!

That is a dramatic difference! I can actually see that without my glasses.

I believe all the 1855 half-cents were slanted, right? On the cents, there were two varieties.

Correct - I always get Half Cents and large cents mixed up.

Me, too. That's why I posed it in the form of a question rather than a statement of fact.

I did the same thing on a thread a couple of weeks back.

Yeah, don't feel bad, for some reason my brain fails to see the "HALF" - probably too many head injuries when I was younger.

But anyhow that is a superb Half Cent. And I still like it at 45, reverse may be holding it to 40 but I'll give it the benefit of a weak strike for the leaves details and stick with 45.

Oh it's alright. I've got a "co-worker" who's got 2 brain cells. One went missing, and the other one went to find him.

Coin looks XF-45 to me. Nice piece!

No problem, this is a learning site and you learned something. As the others said, all 1855 Half Cents have the slanted 5's. 1855 and 1856 Large Cents have both varieties of numbers.
