1863 Indian Head Cent #3

EF-40, not a coin I would buy due to the obverse rim.

The bottom serif in the N in CENT looks like a clown boot. I was thinking that the serif did not have enough metal to blow out that large due to normal hits and initially questioned authenticity. Thoughts? Thanks!

I agree with the concern over that rim. Almost looks like removed from jewelry as a possibility.

Since this is your last (first) post on the coins you've purchased recently I have to throw a few thoughts into the pool.

If you added up the money you spent on these coins, all of which are exceptionally common in the grades displayed, you would have enough to buy a single really gorgeous coin.

Perhaps you are trying to assemble an EF coin set, or maybe you simply like lots of old coins. But when you look at your albums years from now, none of these coins are going to jump out at you.

None of these coins are going to make you say WOW - I love that coin. You might wish to consider spending your "wad" on a single gorgeous (in your opinion) babe.

That type of coin will give you much greater pride of ownership rather than lots of less valuable common old "stuff".

At least that is what works for me.

This is going to sound harsh, but it is an observation I made. You seem to buy a lot of low price, low quality coins instead of using that same money to get a nice higher grade, problem free, example.

For me, at least, quality comes before quantity. I could have 1000 problem coins or 10 nice ones. I'd definitely go for the 10 quality coins. IMO.

Thanks Monty, but I've tried many times to change his buying habits . He buys what he likes and there's no changing his mind . Just go with it .

XF-45. That "clown boot" at the bottom of the N does look a bit odd, and some of the other serifs also look like there's some extra metal. Does the bottom of the N look flattened in hand?
