suggest you save any Pennies dated prior to 1793. Also, keep all the ones dated 1856 or 1922S. Mostly watch for a 1943 Copper one. Other than those, just try to collect an entire Lincoln Cent set.

I'm not interested in keeping pre-82 pennies for their copper...
However, if you have space and can afford them, there is really no reason not to keep them.

Well not a very good mind picture but fist off, Why? There have been BILLIONS, get that, Billions made and countless rolls and bags put up in proper storage. The common stinkin zinkin has no metallic value, will deteriorate quickly if the least bit damaged.

I could not disagree more. The vast majority of post-1982 cents were put into circulation. Billions have been lost to attrition, out of the billions left, most are below MS-63 or have surface/plating issues, bad strikes from over-used dies and black spots. Even most mint set coins are subpar.

Anything else I should be looking for?

Lots...but keep an eye out for MS-65 and up coins. I suggest starting a roll set. Buy some tubes and save by issue any high quality coins you find.....especially the post 1982 coins. It's getting harder and harder to find high quality zincs.

Been working on this set for years:

Personally, I limit myself to Pre-70's copper. Mostly because I love high relief Lincolns as compared to what we have now. It is also something more to look for. Keeps things exciting.

That being said... IF copper value does ever go up. I might also make a few bucks.
Rest in Peace

I personally can't get myself to spend 1.8 cents worth of copper as a cent. So I hold them. I don't even CRH cents. I just pull the coppers out of change.

Anything pre-82 for LWC is ok to keep, also look for double dies...
DO NOT EVER discard the following:
1909S VDB
1909S
1914D
1922 plain
1931S

So someone made a comment to me once about making a quick buck off my coins .. Well isn't that basically what everyone is doing here? Hording them all up trying to do what? Save them for a rainy day? No? Yes? What will you do with them once you've bought or collected them all? I just got a collection from my dad, God rest his soul and he saved pennies from the 1900s until present. Those pennies although may not be profitable will some day tell a story about a time, and a man that saved them and a son that cared enough to not throw them back into circulation to save for another story for his sons... For there daughters or sons... Its heritage folks. Not denominations. This post told me a ton about how this countrys attitude has gone to pot. That coin says IN GOD WE TRUST! That's why I stop and pick up every penny or coin I see on the ground. Maybe some of us need to take a step back and ask ourselves why we pick up those pennys.... Todays coins suck. Not even worth what they are stamped or printed on. Takes more money to make money. Now how ignorant is that? Its a backwards society where everyone is a winner and NO ONE HAS TO WORK HARD TO EARN IT. Mom and Pop shops getting sent out of business, everyone wants it Now! Within a month of a cell phone coming oit its dead technology... Why? Why cant everyone be content? Technology is killing our youth. Can y'all not see it? I ask myself this question often. Where will all the technological people be that rely so heavy on cell phones, cpu, nest, etc etc when it crashes? Or tell me this, can you remember more than5 phone numbers without looking at your phones? Two numbers? That old song by Hank Jr. Country boy can survive is right. Well in my case it is. I'm no doomsday prepper or some activist trying to speak to the masses, I'm saying we need more old school behaviours.. My wifes kids, which are now my kids used to say Yah, no, what, huh... Oh heck No! Now ask one a question, Yes sir, No Ma'am, yes please.. Because we need those ethics in this country. Save all your coins because thats what you do. Each one tells a story, let it live.. Thanks.

That and dont expect the warmest of welcomes from to many. If you're not a normal regular you will get tossed to the side pretty quick and I definitely wouldnt take to many opinions of your coins that serious. Have a professional take a look at your coins. Some may be jealous that you have such a great coims and tell you something to deter your decisions on keeping it. Basically take the negative with a grain of salt. There are some that will say Do not ask me a question without doing your own homework first. They dont like to divulge any info because they put in the leg work and dont like to share amd feel everyone should learn it the same way. Then you have the ones that like to kiss the backsides of the others... Follow the bully types... You don't know these people so why on earth would you trust there judgement? Pshhh. Ain't no way I value one opinion on here. Because thats what it is... An opinion. We all know the saying about opinions right? And not once did I cuss or get outta line. Just stating an obvious facy. You got to be in the click round here... I bet I get booted .. I will wait and see...

I suggest everyone that reads this go out and get as many rolls of Pennies you can afford. Then bury them somewhere. If each person does this, possibly many billions of those will be put away making all of mine more expensive.

If you bury them then wrap them in protective coating otherwise you'll have zinc dust after awhile.
