If the Small Date Dever Cent doesn't weight 3.1 grams, then it's not rare.

Well, yeah - I guess seeing only one 82-D SD has been found so far would indeed make it rare!

You should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

Why Topic Titles are Important

The title of your topic is very important. Let's say you need help attributing an 1896 Morgan Dollar....

  • Horrendous: Help!

  • Bad: Need help with coin

  • Better: Need help with Morgan Dollar

  • Good: Need help with 1896 Morgan Dollar

  • Awesome: Need help with VAM on 1896 Morgan Dollar

This enables the members with expertise pertaining to your question to easily find and answer your question. The title of the topic also becomes the title of the topic's web page, which enables us to attract more collectors to the site. The more members we have, the more we learn.

Just an 82. I'm assuming the 82D is the rare one?

82-D copper Small date is the rare one as only ONE has ever been found. ALL others are pretty common. That's it.

Looks like an earlier die state, so there maybe many more out there, or just this one? Now if we could just locate a a zinc cent with the same mint mark location and markers that match. Then we would have another piece of the puzzle. If the zinc die is an older die state, then it may have been a copper planchet still in the machine before the run of the zinc cents started?
