Thanks Mr. Neff, I may have to do just that. I don't collect cents, but at that price I sure could get some nice silver dollars.

chrsb, I advertise that I buy wheat cents at 3 time face. Sometimes when I meet the seller they bring other coins as well. Since all I collect is silver dollars, I offer 3 times face, sometimes they sell sometimes not. Have even picked up a few silver dollars along the way.

If anything, the lamination will detract from the value of the coin, not add to it. If I were to sell the coin, I'd try not to draw much attention to the "flaw".

I would like to, if possible see a nice closeup of the entire shield. Also, If possible can I see a picture of the diamonds in the headpiece? lastly, can I see a picture of the space between the last 9 in the date and the A of AMERICA. It could be a nice Jackpot! I just want to check a few things:-)
Thanks, Bill

Bill, I agree completely with your posting, especially the need for some additional photos. I know exactly what you are looking for. Probably nothing, but the S asks for more info I believe. But an amazing find for the price!

Hi desertgem,
Thats why I'm hoping to see more pics. I truly want to rule this one in and not out:-) The pics I asked for will give me enough info to at least know if it is one of the more well known but nicely done counterfeits.
Thanks, Bill

I bought a counterfeit 1909-S IHC on ebay 6 months ago. Actually met the diagnostics accoring to Rick Snow's book. Only under 10X can you see the sandblast texture suggesting spark erosion.

Hi Bill, here are your pictures. I like everything except the shield. Space between 9 and A. First 2 diamonds. Diamond2, whats left of 3 and 4. Top of shield. Left side of lower half. Right side of lower halr. Couldn't get the full shield in picture. Bill, the picture on Bakers site shows the grooves ending early on the right side of the shield. I have about 50 of these indians and 90% show show the same lack of grooves in that area. Could he be wrong about that not being a wear area?

Howdy,
Thanks for the extra work in adding those pics.
I think I'm OK with this one:-)
The last thing I would do is compare the S on this one to another known example. This S seems to ride a little high on the surface although the S itself looks right.
I am about 90% sure this is a good one:-)
Nice Coin even with the lamination like mark.

The shield details look good. Mine fake one was mushy and not well defined. Congrats on your find.

Bill says "even with the lamination like mark." because he's thinking the same thing I'm thinking.
This coin is a white elephant...it's a key date coin with a minor error. On any other coin the minor error would be an addition to the coin, but with a key date coin, the minor errors often get in the way of selling the coin at full value, and in some cases, being able to find a buyer for the coin at all. Many people want a 'problem free' key date coin, meaning a coin that has no errors or other flaws. A lot of people see these minor mint caused errors in the same light as coin damage.
As for me personally, if I were to buy a 1909S cent I wouldn't want mine to have the lamination, but that's just me.
Anyhow, not to rain on a parade, this is a very super find for the price, and is still a nice, valuable piece.
I see no problem with authenticity.
