It is convincing looking for sure. It's out of my wheelhouse as well, other than to say it has EF-45 or better sharpness.

Quote: Whats that dot over the third feather? can we get better pics of 1 oclock its a residue of some kind. I noticed it to and thought it might be a raised area on the coin but it is not a part of the coin. looks to be glue or some similar shiny residue. GOOD EYE!

If fake, it's pretty convincing. I'd send it to be graded to confirm if fake or authentic.

Click on the OP photo to see the blow up, then look at the lettering, especially the E's around the rim. Look at LIBERTY on the head dress and compare to a genuine coin.

the letter spacing is not right. compare the spacing in the word UNITED to the original particularly the U stands out as the most significant where the serifs are almost touching the U. looks like a really good counterfeit. also suspect is the roundness of the edges of the letters

I'm leaning "counterfeit" as well. The 4 looks too big, much higher above the top of the 6 compared to the genuine piece.

If this one is a counterfeit, this hobby is going to be in a lot of trouble, because that is a very good one. The sophistication of counterfeits is getting better, making it harder for the average collector to pick them out.
That being said, I am not yet convinced it is a counterfeit. I would need better pictures of the coin in question and a side by side comparison of blow ups with the real deal. The feathers look to be in right place, the lettering that I can see clearly of mottos is similar enough to the real coin.
The reverse Ns (in "ONE" and "CENTS") are shallow in the real piece pictured above, but I'm not sure shallow Ns is observed on all 64Ls. The Ns on the reverse of the coin in question are not as shallow looking which could make one to lean towards questionable. But there are strike differences depending on die wear, strike weaknesses in the series (think the 1877, which has well known shallow Ns on virtually ALL pieces).

Any reason why a genuine coin in a grade this high would not show any diamonds?
