Very cool note!
Newman's catalog states that there are deliberate misspellings and omitted words used for security purposes. Kinda strange that they would make it with an error on purpose, but there you go.
Probably worth a lot more now than then, given it was only worth 1 40th of a Spanish Milled Dollar/specie. Inflation was pretty bad around that time, too. There were 18,249 of these notes printed and issued, and were soon demonetized, so there were likely a number of them just put away as an old piece of paper not worth anything for quite a long time. It amazes me that this era of American paper currency isn't more popular, and maintains a relatively cheap price, especially given it's history and scarcity for certain issues. If there were a print run of only 18,249 of a dollar bill issued today, they'd be worth so much more. But on the bright side, I was able to assemble a set from all 13 colonies and a couple Continentals without too much fuss.

I tend to stay away from guesstimates when I'm unfamiliar with the note posted. I own zero of these, and haven't gotten around to reading up on them yet.

I'm curious, are you asking to see if you got a good deal, or are you asking because you're thinking about buying it ?

Amen, Sky.

But somewhat like karma, we'll get an unbelievable deal down the line to help even things out.

I will keep that to myself for now. Guess I'm asking what would you pay for it?

Well, looking at just the Heritage archives, and considering it's an attractive 58PPQ....I would probably pay $250-$300. Keep in mind, I don't collect these. Mostly because I don't find the design interesting. But, it's extremely cool because of its history, and it's old as dirt. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that a Colonial collector that wanted this note would pay upwards of $400.

The PM market is a bit down, and Colonials are but a small niche in the PM universe.

Take stock in this, you have the nicest example I've ever seen. And, after all of these years, no one has messed with it. It has original paper and has the looks of an uncirculated note. If Florida had Colonials, and I had the chance to own one of them as nice as yours, there's no telling how much I'd pay. Enjoy it !

That is one nice Virginia note! Virginia notes from this issue in my view aren't as interesting as notes from other colonies -but you have a very beautiful note. If you look at the Heritage archives you'll see that so many notes from this issue have problems - but yours is not just problem-free with embossing but also has PPQ. Premium colonial notes have increased in value in the last few years as their rarity has been recognized. FWIW I'm no expert but I don't think you overpaid by any means. Enjoy that great note.
