I don't like PCGS. Their price guide (yes, I know it's for PCGS graded coins only) seems inflated, and they charge too much. Plus you have to be a member and sometimes they don't grade your coin and take your money (rarely). ANACS all the way!

I chose NGC only because I don't agree with the idea of a "third party grader" having an opportunity to profit from the sale of coins they have graded such as with PCGS & DGS. As for ICG & ANACS, from what I understand, they just basically traded staff not to long ago and they both seem to come across a lot of "70's". To the best of my knowledge, NGC does not do either.

ANACS, due to cost, accuracy, and willingness to grade cleaned and other "details" coins. (The policy of bodybagging cleaned & etc coins rather than simply detailing the nature of the problem and allowing the market to work a discount ... is preposterous and should be outlawed.)

Hopefully DGS will be on the poll in the near future. That is, when they become the top grading service for their extremely accurate grading, affordable prices, honesty and integrity. OK, I might be dreaming but at least there is a small chance all that can come true with them being a "new" company.

Having collected coins for 40+ years I have , bought slabbed coins, paid more for PCGS, NGC,ANACS, AND "SOME OTHERS", I collect to have not sell.I also love to purchase RAW coins( the majority of my collection). I have sent 1-coin out to be slabbed,ok 2, however this was so I could authenticate them.I do not need anyone to tell me how nice or bad my collection is and pay for that opinion to boot.
I will say that when on ebay and you see coins selling for more $$$ most of the time they are a slabbed coin, I do not like this but this is reality.I think people feel safer when they purchase a "named slab" over raw to compensate for their inability or lack of knowledge on the subject of coins and just what is for sale, feeling safer with the named slab.
This has brought the collecting of coins to another level and I do not appreciate people cashing in on this premise, just my opinion. BE WELL, MORGANS DAD... ps, that company I sent the coins to was ANACS...

I like ICG slabs best but picked PCGS for their universal value.

P.S. PCGS "bammed" me from their forums for a political comment w/o so much as a warning so I may change my vote to NGC in the future. I don't care for look of NGC slabs right now though.

I chose SGS for a number of reasons, all of which have been stated in other threads.

Isaiah,

I will choose my words carefully here, and know that my opinion and comments are one of a coin collector and not a moderator on this forum.

Having said that, the only reason I am even commenting is because we have a lot of young numismatists and collectors here that may not be savvy to the TPG's in the world, and their qualifications and acceptance in the world of coin collecting. There are arguably 4 major third party grading companies that can be "trusted". In no specific order: PCGS, NGC, ANACS, and ICG.

SGS is not one of these, nor do we want any of our newer members thinking that SGS is in ANY way a respectable TPG. There is NOTHING good about any coin in an SGS slab, and that includes authenticity. I apologize if my words seem harsh, but this is an informational site for coin collectors, and SGS should only be mentioned here to reinforce the fact that they are not good at what they do.

It is to your credit that you're willing to discuss this objectively, and not take offense at some of the comments you're reading. However, one must consider the overwhelming body of evidence, formed by many years of experience with this seller on the parts of collectors whose expertise completely shames my own, against your own experience.

It's entirely possible that you've actually managed, for instance, to purchase a PF70 coin from this seller. What I'd ask is, do you have a 10x loupe and the expertise to determine the grade? If you can see *anything* on a coin, even under a loupe, then it simply isn't a 70. That's the standard the "reputable" TPG's use, as well as the standard any knowledgeable numismatist uses.

My point is, the fact that a broken clock is still right twice a day doesn't make it any less broken the rest of the time.

I was going to use ANACS until I held one of their new slabs. God awful ugly. Part of the process has to be the appeal of the holder :P

PCGS for me I suppose

Without being specific and getting bammed here, it had to do with our recent presidential election. It was a joke really and *BOOM* I'm gone. Those California types can be touchy!
