Cautiously optimistic. The Australian mint does do some nice stuff, they also are one of the leaders in selling product distribution to single companies. It does seem a little sad that the US mint has to defer to them to take the lead, but it will probably turn out better that way.

Reminds me a bit of the joint venture between the US and Iceland back in 2000 to commemorate Leif Ericson's trip to the "New World" a 1000 years earlier. That wasn't a cooperative venture between mints (AFAIK Iceland doesn't have a mint and I believe their coins are struck by Great Britain's Royal Mint), but between the governments and both coins were struck at the Philadelphia mint. The Iceland 1000 kronur coin is still readily available, but as a foreign coin, you don't find it listed in the RedBook with US commemorative coins. As such, IMHO many collectors don't have/collect this coin. I expect that many will pass on an Australian coin commemorating the Apollo mission as well. I know that I won't be getting one, but to each their own  |

I know it's early, but does anyone know how sales will actually work? Somewhat of a turn-off if it's being shipped from Australia.

Even with that though it's still cheaper than if they farmed it out to an exclusive international supplier like that have with some things in the past. |

It would be nice if they sent a large supply to the U.S. Mint's distribution center (or some other domestic depot) for shipping to U.S. customers.

I'm pretty excited to see this one to be honest. The Australian mint really does do some better quality stuff than the US mint and are much more creative. There's some strong potential here

I'd be more interested if it were the dollar rather than the half dollar. The half is already in a special set.
Anyone have pictures of the Aussie coin?

The dealers don't seem to charge a premium over the issue price, so I am wondering if there is some sort of bulk shipping going on. How else would they not try to recoup the shipping costs?
