I dont have a scale but I checked the other things you mentioned already. I also googled pictures of pitted silver for 2 hours before posting and found nothing even close. Its a very strange coin. I would love to send it someplace to find out whats wromg with it but I wouldnt know where to start. Hopefully someonebpoints mebin the correct direction..( I did generic weight test with another barber of similar reverse ware and the weights were the same.. I use this test for pennies since I cant keep a scale working for longer than a day it seems.

I Googled
'Coin dealers in Illinois', and found quite a few.
Pick one that suits you, 'phone them, then send a picture attached to a text.
Perhaps they may then discuss it with you further, over another 'phone call.

At least, you may get a corroborative answer.

Take some in focus images of the full front and back of the coin (straight down on the coin), and post them here.

I will try again. When I went over head it wouldnt focus do to the light and if I lighted it at an angle it hid qlot of the detail. Any tips on how to photo this coin and to make sure detail comes through when it scales down would be great. I am just learning so any input would be greatly appreciated! Tips and tricks on photographing coins should be a sticky thread. I was into baseball cards for 30 years till the coin bug bit me a few mths ago and I must admit its stronger than the cardboard bug ever was!!I have been CRH for years stacking silver without a thought of the coin itself. Then one day my 5 year old got a used penny book from school. I bought a box to fill in the gaps and after I found out about errors and varieties I was HOOKED HARD. I sell cards on ebay and stopped when this bug bit me... sorry for the story it just came out :)

If you're using a phone camera, one thing that works for me is to not get so close to the coin, but hold the camera farther away and zoom in 40-50%. There seems to be a focus sweet spot.

I should also add that the places that should be smooth fields are raised just as high as the letters and numbers. The letters and numbers appear to be printed over whatever defect or other coin is underneath. It seems like another image to me but wishfull thinking on my part.

Looks like heavy damage.

Can you post a pic of the reverse as well?

Here you go.. its not damage....atleast I dont think... I think I can see other letters around the rim but it could be my imagination. The back is normal wear with 0 problems like the front. The picture doesn't do the back justice.. no pitting just discolored in places.

To me, it looks like the obverse was super heated or something.. not sure. Hard to tell without being in hand.

Not sure where your at but you might want to try looking up coin shows in your area. Go to one with that coin and ask dealers there for their opinion.
