I collect any that contain a story on how I got them. I like mint condition US coins - any variety.

Terry, it's always heartbreaking to part with a Morgan, but selling a CC Morgan is like losing a pet. However, what must be done, must be done. If you're on good terms with your dealer, I'm sure you got good prices. I'm not too far away from your situation: no income except my disability pensions since this past March, so I'm selling, selling, selling, but only Boy Scout patches. I sold an 89CC (ANACS cleaned/damaged AU/XF) last week, but that was to reinvest in another Morgan, but without problems. My Scout collectibles are keeping my head above water without having to break into my investments... so far. Fred

Oh, I like Mercury dime. I wish I had the money to seriously collect some a lot of older coins But.... I voted for the quarters. The State Quarters offer quite a variety and they only cost 25c. It also is a longer term interest to see the next one come every few months over the years. Chasing down the new State Quarters is more of a challenge from Australia than for those in the USA.

Mainly pre 1900 US coins. Such a big tempting world out there though. Too bad my budget don't fit the big tempting world.

My response, which was quite predictable if you know anything about me, was cents. It surprises me to see there are so many "other" votes, and that cents got so little of the overall vote. We will have to see what we can do about that

While I absolutely love the Morgan dollars I have a special fondness for the Buffalo nickel and know those coins will NEVER go anywhere! Actually I have so many coins, sets, and countries I am attached too it is very hard to say what is my number 1 desire in this hobby. There is so much to chose from and after turning to the Darkside I am like a kid in a candy store! So many coins, so little time and never enough money!!! I actually care very little for the nickels but find I have almost a complete set of U.S. nickels from the time they started making them. I have almost two sets of Buffalo nickels, a full set of Liberty (V) nickels and a partial set of Shield nickels. My wife is near the end of the Jefferson set so our nickels are almost complete but I am contemplating selling the Liberty nickels off as a set due to my desire to concentrate on SILVER at this time? What is a guy to do? Also have almost all of the U.S. dimes from 1917 to date and I absolutely don't care for them either? I think a lot of it is the value of a finished set if they are less than unc. and my Mercury dimes are, for the most part, a circulated set of coins and until you grab the 1916 you really don't have much to show for your efforts? My Roosevelt collection is close to completion but again I have no desire or hurry to finish this particular set and it holds the proof issues as well? I just can't find the excitement with dimes!

"Other" for me. I'm a world coin OFEC collector.

I always favored the original Buffalo nickel and it's design. Still believe it was the best coin this country ever minted. However, just today I seen a coin (or medal) that was designed and produced by Daniel Carr which had made me hopeful that some day we will have beautiful coin once again.

Demonboy: OFEC is "One From Every Country". Specifically, circulating coins from every country that issued them. I try to keep "country" very loosly defined to keep things interesting.

OFEC -- What a great idea for a collection.
My coin dealer usually has a bucket of 15 to 20 pounds of "foreign" coins. I would bet that one-third of the world's countries would be represented in that bucket. A starting place perhaps. I likely won't pursue the idea, but may interest the Grandkids in giving it a try. There would be a litle geography to be learned along the way also, as well as interesting facts about various countries.
