The BLP gold coins have always been the most difficult for me to grade, especially round this grade level.

MS61.

Thanks a lot for your help! :-)

The mint lu#65279;ster is a good indicator for traces of harm. Unfortunately it very hard to show it. That is why I made a video. Does it affect your Opinion about the coin?

NGC had the advantage of examining it in hand, with a 10x loupe, and were able to tilt the coin with different lighting angles.

I would agree this coin is mint state but I'm surprised by MS-63 from NGC. There are lots of small to medium contact marks which appear to limit the grade to 61 or so.
Maybe the luster in-hand is good enough to support the assigned grade.

@Jaobler To be honest my guess for this coin was MS62. 1909 D has not the best luster, but nethertheless this specimen is very shiny for the type. In termins of scratches it is rather MS62, but it has a very good strike and that's probably the reason for MS63
