I have seen that on a bunch of their slabs. I have no idea what it means. Do a search for VP-002 NGC and you get loads of coins in their slabs with that on them.

Hi Bill:

I think I got it.

Its their Trade-mark for "V"ariety "P"lus.

Only there are lots of their coins with the 002 also after the VP so its got to be something in their Variety Plus numbering system I guess.

PCGS has it for ms65 at 400.00 and ms66 for 3,500. Of course this is higher then what you can get them for.

Thanks.

Obviously its not a $5,000.00 coin (E-Bay) but I guess its also worth more than the $20.00 bucks I had originally thought it might be worth, in which case, I'm happy!

The PCGS price guide is dreaming.

These are worth no more than $50 in 65 and $100 in 66...and that's a stretch.

I would sell all I have at half the PCGS guide price for anyone who believes in it.

Thanks Chuck,

Never hurts to dream! (LOL)

Still better at $50.00 than what I paid for it- ($15.00)!

General information regarding 1960 D/D Large Date 1 Cent.

* Further research- I can't find any graded 1960 d/d large date 1 cent certified by PCGS in their guide- its all 1960 d/d small/large date DDO's etc.

AS for this coin and NGC- They have certified a total population
of 7 coins for a 1960 D/D large date 1 cent VP002

1-MSBN- Grade 53
1-MSRB- Grade 61
1-MSRB- Grade 65
*3-MSRD- Grade 65 (one of them being this particular coin)*
1-MSRD- Grade 66

Total- Seven.

* If anyone has a PCGS Number for a plain 1960 D/D large Date one cent ( Not a D/D DDO, small/large etc), I'd appreciate it if you would let me know what it is. I'd like to also know the total POP for any PCGS certified one's out there.

Thanks.

Chuck.

PCGS only lists the Cherry Picker's guide die numbers. ANAC's do list them. So that is why you couldn't find any listing for them there.

Thing about the low pops is that the coins are generally not worth the fee, thus very few were sent in. I own 7 of them, and have seen far more than that. The ones that are actually worth money are the ones you see only a few of in your lifetime.

While this repunched mintmark is nice, it is not rare, and it is not something that has ever generated a lot of interest in the generalist coin collecting community.

I have sold a few of these in my time - AU coins for around $10, and mint state coins from 63-65 in the $20-$30 range. I would think anything higher than that would be a stretch. Now, a coin in 66 is a rather uncommon occurrence, and one of these in 66 would be somewhat scarce, thus its value would be significantly higher...$75-$150, but nowhere near a grand.

Well,

We'll just have to agree to dis-agree on this one Chuck.

Its not like we are disagreeing on whether its a valid RPM or not.

I think its worth more than $20 to $30.00, you dont. I'm with that.

* These are the slabbed coins I purchased in this package.

Paid approx $108.00 plus $12.00 S&H- total $120.00- average $15.00 per coin.

I think I did pretty good, especially since I was not the one who paid to have these coins originally slabbed!.

1. 1923 P Peace Dollar- ANACS MS63

2. 1935 P Buffalo nickel ANACS AU58

3. 1944S Lincoln Cent ANACS MS66 Red

4.1960 D/D Large Date 1C VP002, NGC MS65 RD

5. 1986S Washington quarter NGC PF 68 Ultra Cameo

6. 1993W Madison (Bill of Rights Comm) PCGS MS69

7. 1999D Pennsylavania State Quarter ICG MS67*

8. 2006P Ben Franklin $1.00 (Founding Father Comm) NGC MS69

* The 1999D PA Coin was the one I was after out of this group!*

Thanks again for your responses- Appreciate it!
