I purchased from a gold and silver shop. It has been fruitful. Most of the gold guys are intersted in buying and turning. This was apparently part of a collection and he wasn't interested in it. Good for me. As far as worth I don't know. No comps. Capped die coins go for $100 to several hundred.

Hi! I was searching for a way to describe my 1981 Roosevelt dime and saw this post. I was wondering if mine is anything like this one?

I've been meaning to readdress this coin for some time. I sent it to ANACS to grade and attribute the error. It didn't come back as I had hoped. They graded the dime AU50 which is ok. They called it a struck through late stage die cap. That also is ok because that is what it is. The rub is there is no indication of the the ghost images of the bust on the obverse. I saw a similar dime on Mike Diamonds site. Have a look here. http://www.error-ref.com/capped-die...ling-raised/Should there be another designation to this coin? Please let me know what you think.

1847bill- I personally don't like how Anacs labeled the coin either and I'm not sure how the other grading companies do. But the problem with this wording is that it makes the coin seem like it's a generic struck through late stage die cap. I feel they should have used, struck through ROTATING late stage capped die but not sure if it's just because they can't fit that on the slab. According to Mr. Mike Diamond,"rotated cap strikes and all other types of shifted cap strikes are worth more than a generic, late stage die cap."

Silver, good luck and let us know if you find trends for error strike and DDs. Some catalogs, very lights. Those trends are close to the specialized collectors and they do not publish, domage. So in this case the public prices could be very speculative. This it is not a joke. I have 'it for one penny 1930 in exchange a Gaulden 1923 which was missing me. So work like this.

Thanks ghawk, I'm thinking the problem is classification for error coins is growing faster than the TPG can accommodate. I'm considering removing the coin because I feel the slab is down grading it.
