john100, if it was the map mule then the date on the obverse would be 1974, not 1973.

Natalie131992, what is the other side? They made a series of these coins from 1973 to 1976.

Not an error. Your coin is a normal coin, part of the 1973 series.

But it is from the 1976 Olympics. I thought it was supposed to say 1974 on the front.

The newspaper article I have with the coin says that it was supposed to say 1974 on the front. That there were about 8,000-10,000 that made it into circulation.

They made a series of these leading up to the 1976 Olympics. Quoting from my Coins of Canada catalogue, "these coins were intended to help finance the XXI Olympiad, in Montreal in 1976. In total twenty-eight silver coins were issued in 7 series of four coins each from 1973 to 1976."

What newspaper article? The 1974 series has different designs on their reverses. The one you have here, the "Montreal Skyline", is a 1973 issue.

That article is talking about the "map mule". That newspaper clipping is undated but it's from 1974 (Edit: Okay, not so sure when that article was published but it should be around those years. The San Francisco Chronicles doesn't have an online archive going that far back.). Quoting that article, "but instead of 1974, it carries the date 1973."

8000 to 10000 were wrongly dated?
I thought the number was somewhere around 360.

I appreciate all of your help guys! There's a funny story behind it, and that old copy of only a section of newspaper...apparently someone owed someone money and they gave this coin as payment back in the 80's, along with only that small section of the newspaper with it. I guess they got played. Any idea of this coin is worth anything more than $10? I'm a nursing student who is half way done with college and inquired the value because I need help paying for tuition.

Normal coin is worth only bullion value, none of the Olympic coins has done well, about 1.4 oz. silver for 10 dollar version

I have an example of the coin pictured in perhaps MS64 or 5, but despite it's nice condition, I never regarded it in having much more than bullion value.
That is the reason why I bought it.

The Australian Olympic Team did very poorly in the Montreal Olympics. 1 silver medal, 4 bronze.
Much better in the 2000 Sydney Olympics 16 gold 25 silver, 17 bronze.
