A well preserved sixpence but Peter's probably right.
Exposure to air and the passing of time will cause silver to tone naturally so nothing 203 years old would be that shiny unless it had been polished.

Re toning will happen after polishing, but I would like to see luster under the toning, if it hasn't been polished.
That is why different lighting angle is needed.

Pics out of the 2x2 would be in a step in the right direction.

Thank you to all who posted. My gut says that they should be returned to sender?

Caveat emptor.
Unless bought purely for intrinsic value.
What worries me is that people have commented that they can't see the cleaning,I'm 100% certain, this has destroyed the coins as
numismatic items.

I agree that looks like a massive polish rub across the face, with the typical flattened high points. Lost all those sharp lines. Real shame Filler value sadly now

i wouldn't consider this bad cleaning or that its cleaned so now it is rubbish, yes there are pattern proof and truly uncirculated sixpence maudy set or something like that but this was time when silver where everyday pocket change, its still quite and old coin and yes I understand that us collector don't like the polished look these days but this thing has had a 200 year life. As one can see there is some wear on the lions on the crest but overall I say still very nice coin (you should look at some of the other poorly clean detector finds polished, what polish just some split and cloth rag buddy :D ).

I suspect polishing or cleaning, but could be wrong as the coin is in some packaging and out of it, could be more natural.

I did pick up some wear on the shields, but honestly its an EF or better coin and for that era, fairly rare and a nice coin regardless. It would find a welcome spot in my collection. For a "first" British coin its a rabelasian achievement!

Can I be rude and ask you what you paid for it?

Need a pic out of the 2x2, with different lighting angle.
Still a nice coin anyway.
