So I have a question on grading that this comment kind of triggered

This might be a dumb way to put it but is grading specific to the coin type or mint? I know the grade is specific to an individual coin but more generally. To use an example I am familiar with Morgans from San Fran are often really well struck and ones from New Orleans not so much. All things being equal I would expect a S mintmark Morgan from the same year as a O to probably look a little nicer even if the condition is the same. So would the nicer coin get the better grade, is it strictly based on condition and not the original strike, or do both come into play yet knowing the O's just weren't as good fresh off the press, so to speak, do you account for that?

That's the same coin from different mints but I am sure different coins from the same series might have the same issues in that one style is easier to mint than another one and the strike is better. The dies might have been better or the relief shallower or greater, allowing the metal to flow better, etc.

All things being equal I try to buy the coins I find more attractive but also I understand that different coins from different series and mints will have different levels of initial competency when they were struck.

So is grading simply condition or is it condition plus the original strikes attributes?
