@sh, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @john1 (and perhaps @dorado--that link is broken so I'm not sure what he was trying to say) that this cent was likely encased at some point--that seems to often cause that step down around the rim. For completeness, could you please add a pic of the obverse of this coin to this thread too? Thx.

Definitely PSD. It did not leave the U.S. Mint like that. Errers and Varietys.

Anybody here notice the indent on the reverse? The "obverse side is slightly raised as well.

@SH, yes the crescent-shaped indent along the rim on the rev was most likely caused by this cent being encased. Again, seeing a pic of the obverse would be helpful.

It was an Encased Cent. Someone removed it. The best thing to do with these is to leave them in the holders. After they are removed, then you see the damage to the coin. At least in the holder they are still collectable. Out of holder, just a damaged coin. (regardless how nice the coin looks in the holder, they are damaged when taken out. The damage happens while putting the coin into the holder) |

What damage exactly. I need evidence to support this claim. How could the image of Lincoln on this coin, be damage during the removal from it's encasement.

Your evidence/Images:no link doesn't support the claim the coin has ever been encased nor does it relate to any error found on this coin

Just a "lucky" coin removed from the surrounding ring. I've had several of these show up over the last 50 years of error collecting. Interesting, but of no value. PSD ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!
