Sorry about the poor photos...my scanner is down and I used a cheap digital camera...what do you think? also after looking at it, I decided that it is not a high mint state, but slider at best? Image: 1909VDB1.jpg101.74 KB Image: 1909VDB2.jpg101.52 KB

That DOES look like a mint mark ...Could we have a close up of the date/MM area?

I tried getting better pics---cropping and editing, but none of these are good enough to see detail...if there is a mint mark, it is very weak ...are there varieties with weak mint marks? When I look under the the loop it looks like there may be a weak S Thanks Bryan!

Try holding a magnifier in front of the camera's lens and then shooting the picture...Works for me every time.

While I can't bring the picture back it indeed has a mint mark , when I look at it at 600 magnification it is visable but not clear enough to authenticate .
we need better pics a,,if you can't get them take the coin to a coin shop and see if they can authenticate the mint mark ,, the1909 S VDB is the key date for the lincoln series and even damaged by the soldier its value goes up considerably .

My last shot at better pics...if this doesn't work I'll take it to a local expert..thanks to Sir Ferrari on magnifier in front of lens!! Image: 1909vdb1.jpg35.34 KB Image: 1909vdb2.jpg11.16 KB Image: 1909vdb3.jpg34.33 KB

I can't tell if that is an "S" or not. Anyone? . If it is not, the coin is worthless. If it is an 09-S VDB, then there might be a little value there. Maybe a couple hundred bucks. The damage is significant.

OK with the larger pics there is something there but its not an S it could just be a wear pattern or something .. I retract my previous post it does not appear to have a mint mark .

I do not see anything that could be a mint mark.

Whatever the smudge under the date is, it's not in the right location to match one of the 4 obverse dies. I'd guess you have a 1909 VDB with solder on the back. Probably worth more to re-attach a back and sell as a pin.

1. The coin is nowhere near an uncirculated coin. It has wear.
2. The coin is either plated or coated with lacquer or something that turned the color way wrong. The texture of the fields is not original either.
3. The solder spots (what I can see of them) renders the coin numismatically valueless.
It's a cull worth a few dollars at most.
