I'm no expert in this series, but I think the Large/Small O issue is for the "With Drapery" variety. This is a "No Drapery."

Yeah, looks like you're right, Bilbo. However, I can't be 100% sure cause I just briefly checked.

Perhaps this coin was one of the "New Orleans Hoard."

If I'm not mistaken many years ago at a construction site in New Orleans, La., a chest full of early New Orleans (O) quarters and halves was hit with a back-hoe or front end loader... The chest cracked open and there was a MOB of people grabbing and taking the coins.

You can find out more if you GOOGLE "New Orleans Hoard."

Take Care

My judgment was close to vermont and bilbo's. I graded the obverse VF25, reverse XF, net VF 30.

The cleaning doesn't look too bad to me. I'd agree with a VF-30 grade overall. Sadly, this is not the Large O variety and Bilbo is correct, only the "with drapery" obverse goes with the Large O reverse. Here is a photo of the only Large O coin in the Heritage archives. This was graded AU-53 by NGC and sold for $6900 a couple years back. Note the position of the mintmark in comparison to the position for ShadowCreator's coin.

Well, that's the difference between a new car and a casual trip to the coin shop, I guess.

VF35. I have an ANACS graded VF30 and this has a touch better detail.

Really? Wow, they must be pretty lenient on grading. Maybe the 'XF' quarter I have is XF45 or AU50. I'll post pictures of that too.
