It's been messed with. Can't tell a lot from the pics, but I think it's a cleaned/polished XF. I would avoid it.

Pics don't really show the surface detail well, so I'm unsure about it being polished. I lean toward genuine and possibly dipped.

Thanks to all for your comments. I don't think its been polished but I do think it has been cleaned, probably dipped. Its actually a great looking coin and if real I may keep it.

Who in there right mind would polish/dip a coin like that. I am no pro but am leaning towards it being fake. Let's see what the pros say .

The 1970's fakes from Europe were quite good. Much better than the more recent China fakes, even though those weigh correctly.

I've looked at hundreds of Trade in detail, and I've owned a fair number, but I'm still not confident on giving a thumbs up on most of them from photos only.

I don't see anything glaringly wrong with this one.

But you really need to be advised NOT to buy a Coin like this that has had the surface dipped to gray. This will always be a tough coin to resale. Maybe you don't care, but if you wait for a nice example that hasn't had the life dipped out of it, I think you will be happier.

There are numerous TPG graded Trade dollars available without a premium over a raw one. Easy choice.

It seems real to me and weights correctly at 29.2g.

Genuine Trade dollars weigh 27.2 grams, so this one is overweight. Perhaps the weight info is a typo? Unless I knew and had confidence in the seller, this is not a coin I'd buy online. There are fake slabs in the marketplace, too. Even dealers have been fooled.

give us the auction number, then we may be able to add more, to this conversation..

But this coin has been cleaned/polished. It would be a details coin for sure.

IMHO, the auction coin is not the same one posted at the top. The auction coin was severely, harshly scrubbed and is worth far less than the price realized.

its the same coin, you can match up the larger scratches, like the one by 420..

Real coin, harshly cleaned..
