Struck through in my opinion. Definitely deeper than a LAM and has no pushed out metal anywhere.

I am leaning towards a Struck Through error, since it's deep.

If struck-through then I don't think the Y or the edge of Abe's shoulder would be visible in the bottom of the defect. For sure IN has been damaged so perhaps this is a combination of a couple things?

I'd say strike through. I would expect a lamination to show an uneaven/rough surface in the bottom of the trench. I would also not expect a lamination to have such vertical sides to the trench.

It looks like damage to me, but it's just my humble opinion. Members above are probably way more closer to the truth than I am!

Cheers,

Evan

My only concern is the continuation of the shoulder through the indent.
My opinion, PSD.

I'm on the bandwagon with struct-thru. I don't see any pressure ridges and looks a little too smooth for a lamination.

Guys, it's not PSD at all. Look at how deep the trench is. There's absolutely no possible way you could try to recreate what happened here. If you tried to, it would fail and not work, as the reverse side will have pushed out metal from the hit. There's no pushed out metal on the reverse, so it's the real deal. This is indeed a genuine Struck Through error.

I was going with struck through because of the smoothness of the bottom of the trench until I noticed the edge of the shoulder and right side of the Y still visible like Spence said.

With the size of it I wonder if the weight would be any help to determine which?

I am currently living in a field in New York gating an important bat hibernaculum. Will be home Tuesday night and can weigh it if I remember. Offline comments on the coin are pretty strong for struck through planchett fragment.

Thanks for checking in.

And cool about your current bat project.
Is it as strait forward as it sounds "Gating a bat hibernaculem"? You are installing a gate to protect the bats habitat, so they can still leave and return but they are protected from trespassers?
