It will be interesting to see what NGC thinks. Besides the harsh cleaning something just feels a bit off. The bread and head details seem very finely detailed for a coin in this era.

I had remembered your post with those coins with the dark, uneven patina. But I did not remember the 1555 was one of them I had compared it with this higher grade example on CoinArchives: https://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotv...81d6b2ed3b67 I should have been suspicious of the sharper details. ... and I had used the NGC-eBay service before bidding, and received an opinion of "likely genuine." So hopefully I can get a refund ... maybe from two places. And if not... lesson learned.

How does this ebay NGC test even work? Some guy from NGC takes a look at the pics in the listings?

Yes, that's exactly how it works.

tdziemia, thanks for the info. I didn't know this service existed. I almost want to list my undergraded PCGS Ducaton on ebay and then get NGC's opinion on it. :D

Worst possible outcome: Not Suitable for Certification If I had gotten "Likely Not Authentic" I could have returned it. That's more than one lesson learned

I bought a few off of ebay. Little more worn. More for curiosity sake and love of Poland's history. I will try and post pictures later when I have the chance.
