@rocky

It might be the lighting or the camera on my phone. The coins should all be the same as they were stamped out from the same dies.(I would think)

no jimper these are from different dies. jimpler did you read. the report on pressing rule change at the ottawa mint. I did, the new press has a press counter. the figures given in that reportroughly 10 die changes. some where another set of dies came in use. thats why the differents in the over lays. to bad we could find out what the possible counts are to these different dies.

At Winnipeg, soft metals like pennies the dies last close to a million strikes while a toonie about 200,000 strikes, just can't see how a 4500 mintage at these slow speeds would need more than one set of dies. If so maybe that"s why the 1 oz. coins are 120.00 each

the certificate numbers have no correlation to the order in which the coins, are actually struck. The certificates are randomly inserted .. ie coin certificate number 0001 does not mean it was the first coin struck..

Just a data point...

I have seen multiple cancelled dies used by the US Mint to strike proof coins that were taken out of service after fewer than 4,000 strikes (some fewer than 2,000) due to some issue.

So, it's at least possible that more than one pair of dies was used by the RCM to strike this coin.

Agree with you Silverwolf. That's why I never jump on coins offered by the RCM for (Low Certificate of Authenticity). Means nothing to me. To some folks they just like the lower number. I'm a big paper money collector as well and I do like low serial numbers,repeats,etc. on bills and consecutive numbers as well.

A few months ago first time got invited to a MC event at Fort York, kind of cool had a chance to meet the new president along with a few production bigwigs, asked a few questions regarding NCLT production a few tidbits. Dies are now made from CAD machines so most likely all dies are perfect and the colour coins are third party to a US company, most of the collectors at this event just don't care that what they purchase will instantly be discounted, the other news from the reps were they were going to keep lowering the mintage and no more coin a day releases.

@rocky

Thanks for the info. I guess this is the norm for striking coins with multiple dies.
