Quote: I think there is to much dirt in the denticles?, date and stars to have been cleaned. I might be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong looking at a photo on the internet. If you decide to have it graded by PCGS, let me know. If it comes back in a problem-free slab I will give you $10 toward your grading costs.

It does have a bit of a "scrubbed" look to it, which might be the result of an over-aggressive dipping. Luster is not very strong according to the photos. Does it have a complete cartwheel luster in-hand? If so, it may be a genuine UNC with no serious problems. Based on the photos, I'd lean towards an "AU-58 details, cleaned" grade.

OK, I can see I'm gonna have to take a few more pictures with a different camera...the previous ones were done with a microscope. Give me a minute.

You need a more direct light source to show luster on this coin. You can have the light at an angle and the coin at the opposite side with the same angle.

Prethen, NOt sure what ya mean about the angles. My pics are awful and would like to get em better. So do you mean camera directly about the coin, light to the right and it and coin tilted in the same direction or opposite directions: light coin / / camera? Sorry for being so dense. 3-D is not my plane

It is entirely possible that this coin has MS details but looking at photo #3 in your first post, it appears as if it has been "messed with" in some manner, possibly an old aggresive dipping. I might change my opinion if you can get some photos to show luster instead of shine.

Those look MUCH better. I won't hazard a grade, but in the original pictures, it actually looked WHIZZED. Compared to a few examples I saw.

That has the strangest surface patterns I have ever seen on a Barber coin. I have not seen alot of MS examples, but compared to other MS coin surfaces, this one is different. Could be the pics, but I see that "paisley" pattern mentioned and it is strange to me.
Don't get me wrong , that is a nice coin ! I am interested in getting to the bottom of this one !
Taking pics can be a chore for sure ! I have taken thousands, most of which could not be used for much more than viewing pleasure. Good grading photos can be a tall order on some coins. Try , try again ! And relish in the knowledge that you'll never get it right every time.....

If cloth had been pressing against it (maybe it was wrapped?) for a long time, could it cause that pattern?
