Bufflo Nickel Has No Date Just "F" ?

ty for all the info. Been searching too, I guess it was free and worth melt at least. I also have a 1977 quarter that has some type dye weird double lines around head and hair look doubled. issue I will post later tired now, I was given some coin from a relatives who was a collector and passed away.

Well it is worth more than melt, it is still worth a nickel! Nic-a-date would definitely bring out the date, but it wouldn't help the value much unless a rarer date.

Normally in that condition, not worth your time.

the best way to know if its silver is first to know the coin family, which you can research online. The Jefferson had some silver during WWII and are specially marked. You might find an ultra rare one after those years (I dunno, its possible, the blanks get stuck sometimes eg the 1944 steel) as well, and that also would be a day job ender. But buffalos are just nickel. If you have a silver one, its one of a kind, and you would have to prove it, certify it, and then be rich :)

It takes a while to learn what is what. I just now discovered that some of my Canadians were magnetic... by accident, when my very strong magnet got a bit too close to the page. Learning all the history (which includes what they are made of at various years) is part of the fun...

The only way it could be silver is if it was struck on a dime planchet. That is not the case because it would be smaller and thinner. It's just a normal worn Buffalo nickel, it would be a serious waste of money to send it to a professional grader.

Please don't send in this Buffalo to be graded as their findings will only disappoint you, and you will only be wasting your money. For the cost of having it graded you could purchase a nice BU Buffalo or maybe even a few. You'll find a wealth of great info here on CCF, so please stick around and don't be afraid to ask questions as that's how you learn. Your Buffalo is not made of silver regardless how shiny it looks, tastes or smells. All Buffalo nickels were made of copper and nickel. Again,

I wouldn't send in the Magician's coin. If I'm thinking correctly, they would reject it as "Not Genuine" and it wouldn't be slabbed, but it will still cost the same.

I see no reason to believe that the buffalo is anything other than a common date Buffalo nickel with the date worn away. Worn silver and worn nickels can look similar but they are what they are.
