VF-30 details, cleaned. Looks like some tooling marks in the reverse fields. Not a coin I would buy.

if the cc mint mark on reverse is what I am seeing is real I think $500 is pretty cheap for this one.

yes it is cc I got it to complete my collection I now have them all. I was able to get 84 cc ms 64 but this one is probably my lowest quality, but VF without issues go for about 16-$1800... for $500 to $800 the slabbed coins were not my cup of tea... usually g 8 or so. So I took what I thought was the best details coin I could find

i would be concerned about authenticity unless you are an expert. the 89cc is heavily reproduced due to its large price tag and demand.

I understand that. I showed it on two other sited before I bought it last summer and took pictures to my near coin shop all said authenticity was not a problem

I agree with VF details, but I wouldn't be a buyer either.

No shame on your decision. The importance of the completion was your goal and congratulations for that.

I'm a little confused. You say this completes your set and this is probably the lowest quality coin in the set. So you apparently have a nice '93-S but couldn't save up $1,500+ for a nice example of this?

No this completes my CC collection
And I did spend almost $700 for 2 of my cc coins, but they were both in uncirculated GSA holders

Buying raw scarce date Morgans is dangerous, especially sight unseen. Matching a VAM is no longer enough by itself to verify authenticity. The counterfeiters are on to VAM varieties (for example, the VAM-correct 1899-O counterfeit) and dies for struck counterfeits are now being made with computer assisted die making. Polished coins and heavy surface scratching are techniques used to conceal the counterfeits, so coins with those indicators are immediately suspect (and should be).

That said, I think you will be OK here. I believe you have a VAM-5A 1889-CC Morgan. Here are two reverse diagnostics on your coin, the dropped second "C" of the mm and the die crack through ONE to the "DO" of DOLLAR. Your date clearly is a far date, which matches VAM-5A.

I'm not aware of any VAM-correct counterfeit 1889-CC (yet), but I'm sure they will appear soon.

thank you very much I obviously need to learn to look for varieties.... I was asking what coins different people collect as I want to buy coins that have significance in history (I have an 1867 half because that's the year the railroad went through my hometown of Cheyenne) someone mentioned you can get much deeper into morgans with understanding VAM's
