Well, it didn't actually beat the HRT2i, since the comparison was apples-oranges. I don't know if it would be better or not in an apples-apples (as much as possible) comparison. I thought about trying to make such a comparison but the workflow problems make it moot.

I've never seen such a C-mount camera which can transmit full resolution tethered over USB. Do you have any examples?

I did try several high quality C-mount lenses, but none provided anywhere near the image quality of my Macro-Varon, so I just used it for the comparisons.

I think all cameras with USB3 like RisiNGCam started in name from E3 or U3 can transmit and show live view over usb. Not sure about 100% magnification on screen in their soft.
There a lot different

I guess it's just a BW issue with USB2? I'll check out the USB3 cameras. Do any that you've seen have wired triggering capability?

Yes...DSLR and ILC cameras generally have a port (1/8" jack or sometimes other types) that allow external shutter triggering. This is used for stacks. Do you know if any of these cameras have such capability?

Don't know Ray. As I know it is possible to do stack inside their soft and camera.
At least RisiNGCam have this option.
It is made from 200 frames using soft for E3 family camera
Looking-For-Input-On-The-Best-Methods-&-Equipment-For-Taking-Coin-Pics.....
The soft called RisingView and free available for download.

Actually, I don't understand why the full size image needs to be sent over USB except as a single image. 5.6fps is not all that useful for video. What the DSLRs do is send a low-res image over USB for Live View, then send the full size image after shutter trigger. Does the RisiNGCam do this? I don't want 5.6fps full resolution as I don't have a 20MP monitor. It would not even be useful to me since I could not view it.

The problem with the FHD and similar is that they indeed transmit low res over USB for Live View, but then cannot shoot stills in HD.

I see this camera on ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/high-fps-U...123933657837

Pretty expensive. I do see the focus stacking option in the software, though it's not clear how it is done. The camera has no way to adjust focus. Any idea how it functions?

Yes 5.6 is low, but useful when the subject of view is alive )) But you can see live picture at 30fps with less resolution that correspond to your monitor.
My FHD can sent me via USB2 1600X1200 as slow motion video on screen and allow save frame in full 16MP resolution on HDD directly, unfortunatelly only as compressed file.

Yep it is very expensive with up to 192 frames/s
There a lot of others from RisiNGCam more cheapy.
I have no idea how they do stacks mechanically when this camera have no autofocus hardware.
On the "Ali" I see 54 different color USB3 from risiNGCam.
Another one on ebay

Looks like this company is very new. Their ebay feedback is only "5".

I see a camera on AE which says it has auto focus. I wonder how that works. Can't link to it here.

That camera you linked to is still pretty expensive. Canon XS can be had for ~$100 now on ebay. All I can really say that the CMOS camera can give me is better DOF. That's not worth the extra $285 plus risk of things not really working like the seller claims.

I saw Rising Tech cameras at least in 2016 on AE mostly for astronomy and ppl around the world have bought them directly from AE.
At least there 3 feedbacks on this new model 20MP on AE and 7 orders. It cost about $317 on AE.

But when you need to magnify it will cost also extra $ for Canon.

Ray, it seems this is your fhd camera selling by Rising
There on page is link for some soft for it also
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Remote-Con...123696177017

Don't know why it so expensive on ebay. On AE with later version of firmware this one cost more than twice less. I saw v2 and even v6.
May Be only this seller so expensive?
The same one but later modification

The specs look similar but the camera is not the same. Probably similar camera was made by more than one company, or with multiple versions.

The key spec on that page is "HDMI Snap Mode image resolution 16MP", which basically means that you must be in HDMI mode (with USB un-plugged) in order to capture 16MP images. Those images are then stored on the inserted flash card. This is the functionality that made me give up on this camera. I only paid ~$120 for mine, which I actually thought was a bit too expensive. I think Rising is very expensive.

This is a great discussion, and I want to encourage continuation of it. But with my lack of experience, I have created a new post to discuss basic terms & approaches based of what has been shared here thus far. Here is the thread: http://goccf.com/t/360339
