A curiosity for sure but the reverse looks as if it may have been encased.

Good call. I missed that flattened area on the reverse rim.

Sarge, another thing that makes me believe it was encased is the collar of the coin, it is not flat but looks slightly concave.

@jim0815....that concave edge is not all the way around? It is only concave in the section where the ridge is?

I have had a few formerly Encased Cents, some you can see the pressure caused by the encasement all the way around the coin, some you can see in only certain areas like it appears yours shows. I may be wrong but I think it's been encased at one point.

PMD? I Honestly don't see damage I see a more uniform evenly spaced set of ridge bumps only in one section of the coin which is about a 1/4 of the coin circumference and slight compressed edge causing a concave appearance only in that section! All the rest of the edge is smooth and is the thickness of a regular LWC! The compressed area is thinner like for a dime! I'm not arguing with anyone here or disputing anyone's theory, I'm just not unconvinced it's PMD? Thanks all for your input! Hope everyone has a Blessed Thanksgiving to you and your family's and I wish God Blesses you all! Sarge, out

Question: What does the edge of the coin look like on the areas where the strange look on the rim appears? If there is damage on the edge of the coin, it could affect the edge of the rim.

@coop...Here is another of the edge where the ridged area is (picture 2) and a picture of the transition area where it is concave to normal (picture 1)!

second picture shows the edge of the coin is concave but in reality the rim is overlapping the edge giving the illusion that it's concave. pressure was applied after it left the mint. PSD Post Strike Damage or some people prefer PMD Post mint damage
