They may be nice, but, I don't think you can beat Mr. Lincoln.

I like it!

I have a few Mexican coins in my "miscellaneous" album, but nothing that looks like that. Actually, the smallest denomination I have is 10 centavos.

At the next coin show (end of the month), I am going to pay closer attention to the dark side offerings.

LOL Metalman! First off, excellent pictures!

Yea, that's a beautiful copper! Not my bag, but I'd be tempted to buy that if I saw it just because it's so beautiful.

I really don't like saying this but many countries have coins that outdo ours in looks. One like that for instance. Our coins are just to plain and nothing to really look at. I am actually a little tired of old presidents on our coins instead of things like Eagles, Liberty or even just a shield like our older Nickels.
Of course the way things are going that Centavo will be the coin of this country soon.

Carl

while I enjoy the US coinage for what it is and what it represents ,the old designs were much more attractive .

but when I look for actual art work on coinage there is nothing like the world coins and I'm especially fond of the mexican copper as far as I have seen they are some of the most beautiful both in design and meaning .

Like the Revolution era coinage !

I totally agree. And Mexican coins from the early 20th century and before are absolutely beautiful. I suggest we all start collecting these centavos. haha

I'm partial to older coinage too because I can see handwork evident on the dies--and thus find die varieties.
Mexican revolutionary coinage interests me, and I hope to collect someday when I know what to look for.

Australian, Canadian, Mexican, Singapore coins, on and on. So many great looking coins. Where will it end?

I've never liked the concept of dead politicians on our coinage.

Metalman, that '23 has got some really cool toning. That magenta is nice.

By me there is occationally a large intercontinental coin show at a place called the Rosemont Convention Center. I've gone there a few times just to look. I've always noted that there are absolutely no USA coins there and when I asked I was told they are not allowed. While walking around I've always noted that the vast majority of coins from all over the world seldom have some old dead guy on them. Some do naturally but most appear to have had a real artist design them. Many of the coins there if blown up larger could probably be used as a painting for a wall. Sure wouldn't do that with our modern coins. Imagine a large painting of the Jefferson nickel on your wall.
Around me that Mexican coin would be much more understood than the US coins. I have many neighbors that can only speak Spanish. With over 5 Spanish TV stations, numersous Spanish Radio stations we should all be getting used to the Peso.
