Not the reverse. You can see the the metal. It's like an old penny from the 90's was tossed in for 2003 and got punched over. I'll try and get better photos. But the "8" between god and In is definitely in the die. No wipeing or soaking getting rid of it. So what cod it be besides cup holder stains. As well as look at the obv of the penny. You can clearly see where tit was partially struck. I feel like it got stuck in the machine for a cou Pl le presses til it finally came out the machine but idk this is a wide fun new one for me. So ideas opinions and every thought can help and are appreciated

Your pics are good enough. First, if your overlay is as you see them and are backwards, it's a stain. We seen these pop up from time to time. PSD.

Ok well heres where my biggest thing why I'm I think its multiple sturck or die clash. The markings are underneath LIBERTY. if it was press by another wouldnt the raised surfaces on the Obv. Be basically above Liberty and not underneath it? I'll take a pic now and upload and show what I mean

There is no way a 2003 P cent was somehow struck with a 1988 set of dies. Soak in some acetone for a while and you'll see what you're actually seeing. It is a stain. Nothing more.

I guess the only thing for you to do is send your coin to Dr. James Wiles. His site is VarietyVista.com. He'll charge you $10 plus postage. Good luck on your cent!

It is PMD. Please no more photos, and save yourself $10 by not sending it in.

Oh no I think it was on a 98 die honestly the 88 was just the first penny that I had in front of me with an 8 so I could edit photos and puzzle pieces together. So for record I think it's a 98 1c die but hey could be complete wrong. I've just seen and read about these clash dies and the things u could see.

Circulation cents are only struck once. (usually)

If it were struck many times, why is there only one rim on the coin?

If it were struck multiple times, why would the design be different sizes?

Just as mentioned staining and alteration could cause have affected the coin. Spendable.

Stained, gunked, corroded normal cent. Everything you are seeing happened long after it left the mint.

Nice images and overlays.
One of the best things to do on these tired coins is to soak it in pure acetone to see what gunk comes off.

That usually eliminates 98% of most questions.

We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

This is nothing but a stained and corroded 2003 cent. Pure Pareidolia.
