I've read that oxalic acid will turn green ink blue. Sounds like it may be a candidate for a professional opinion...

Any Update? I also have a 2013 $10 with the same discoloration. perhaps there were a few errors that year in printing

It's my experience that enzyme-based detergents can do some very colour-specific colour changes - things like changing the green to blue without seeming to change anything else, are very possible.
I'd also point out that it seems to be quite well-used. A note with a striking "error" on it, like the wrong coloured seal, probably wouldn't last long in circulation before it gets pulled. Which means it was probably "the correct colour" for most of its circulating life.

Although unsure of how it was done, I've seen many altered "false error" US Notes with their red ink changed to yellow with no apparent change to any other aspect of the notes. A common scam.

Perhaps the original poster can post the back also. Very few currency errors of inked seals or serial numbers that have changed color are out there. When they are real however they are recognized by the grading services, and green to blue ink is a real error that can happen but unknown to me if there is chemical ways to do this green to blue change as well. If it were me, it would be worthwhile to investigate unless its proven a fraud by someone. The red to yellow ink can be environmental or intentional and are the most common that are usually not an error. I believe the link given in another post above has some info on that. I'd want to hold one in hand, However it appears there are more in the wild. I am not a currency Paper Expert by Any Means, But THIS second bill presented , clearly nicer condition shows the Same Color changed seal, However the second bill shows a First Printing, Compared to the OP'S bill being a Third printing, ? Leads me to believe Either the Same " unknown " method is @ work or the 2003 bills were printed this way........... NO ?  Fresh Find !! Thanks for sharing... So we have three mentioned - all 2013 same denomination of $10 with blue serials/seals which leads to believe its an error rather than something external where it would be found on other years and denominations. Got a membership to PMG will be sending my $10 bill with the blue serial numbers in for grading after further research there are other denominations with the Blue ink and it is a ink contamination error

Sounds good, come back and post when its graded. As mentioned before if you missed it, we have three of them just in this thread- all 2013 same denomination of $10 with blue serials/seals which leads to believe its an error rather than something external where it would be found on other years and denominations. HA and KB blocks you should note. Printing of the Series 2013 notes was the first project that LEPE press had taken up so its not impossible. I will add that we did cover the ink fountain discoloration error from 2013 here but that was more black looking serial numbers in case you mistook it for that. http://goccf.com/t/438361 |
