Not sure of why your asking that question . I'm in the hobby now about 58 years and I've never seen or heard of a holder be it cardboard or plastic fall apart or disintegrate over years of use .

Thanks for the answers. I'm new to numismatics and recently, talking to a more experienced collector, he told me that holders must be changed every 5 years. I thought it was strange so here I am

There are coins out there in collections that have been in paper envelopes for over 150 years.

I thought it was strange so here I am Yes they should be changed every 5 years but only due to sending me the coins in them.  Then I'll put them aside for about 100 years.  Are you sure that the person that told you that collected coins?

If it's in a TPGS hard plastic slab. About two minutes once I get my hammer.

Thanks guys - I know my archive quality Mylar flips I paid 20c each for (12c US) were a good investment.

Maybe because in Brazil the heat and humidity is so high that the cardboard gets funky and needs to be changed every few years .
