There's nothing on it. I thought maybe it had been filed or something but it doesn't show any signs of that. It's pretty smooth to the touch and it runs together smoothly with the raised portion of the coin.

So that rounded area in front of Jefferson's face is completely smooth and not raised on any way? to the CCF!

Yes the area in front of Jeffersons face is completely smooth. The only part that is raised is where the smooth part of it goes in to the partial design that appears on the coin.

Where the design itself does appear is raised.

Despite the lack of damage on the rev, my vote is for damage rather than a mint error.

Interesting thread and coin. The weight should give us an answer.

Looks hammered to me. If so the coin is probably bent a bit. Spender.

The coin isn't bent and it isn't glue. The weight is 4.9g. I'm still thinking PMD as well but wanted to see what others thought.

I'm not seeing any damage to the reverse from PSD. I don't know how this might have been produced by the minting process but I'm still trying to figure out how this effect could have been produced PSD without damage showing up on the reverse?

Jefferson's forehead is crushed flat and the obverse design rim is flattened as well. So I have no doubt that this is some kind of post-strike damage.

Petespockets55. I'm with you as far as understanding how the damage occured without damaging the reverse. I'm still stumped myself. Not to upset anyone! I do believe it's most likely PSD, just not sure what caused it!!
